Chapter 293 - 293 Little Spy

293 Little Spy

At that moment, Shen Yin was taking a shower in the bathroom, but Cheng Huo was sitting on the sofa in the room, flipping through the newspaper. When he heard her phone that was lying on the coffee table ring, he looked at the caller ID and stole a glance in the direction of the bathroom. He reached out to pick up the call.

Shen Nian sighed with relief the moment the call went through. “Mom, are you alright? Where are you now? Whose house are you at?”

“Mm.” Cheng Huo suddenly agreed nervously on behalf of Shen Yin. When he heard the other party suddenly fall silent, he explained in amusement, “Nian Nian, I’m Uncle Cheng. Don’t you remember me?”

“I remember you.” Shen Nian looked at the computer screen expressionlessly. There was a cold glint in his eyes. “Is my mother with you? Why isn’t my mother answering the phone?”

“Your mother is taking a shower,” Cheng Huo replied with a smile.

There was a long silence at the other end of the phone. After a while, Shen Nian seemed to recover from the shock and said calmly, “Then when Mommy is done showering, can I trouble you to ask her to call me back? I’m very worried about her.”

“Okay,” Cheng Huo agreed readily.

After Shen Nian hung up decisively, he quickly dialed the number that he thought he would never dial.

The young lady on the other end of the phone had gone to sleep long ago. When she was suddenly woken up, her childish voice sounded rather nasal. “Hello? Who are you? How dare you call and wake me up when I’m sleeping? You must be tired of living.”

Shen Nian fell silent for the third time that night. Cheng Mu thought that her reproaches had rendered the other party was speechless. She was about to fall asleep again when Shen Nian’s clear and cold voice suddenly said. “Cheng Mu, my mother is at your house now. You have to ensure her safety and not let your brother get close to her. Otherwise, we will never be friends again!”

Cheng Mu was so frightened when she heard his voice that she bolted upright.

She used to turn off her phone when she slept because she did not want to be disturbed by sudden sounds. However, ever since she forced Shen Nian to add her phone number to his phone, she would turn up the volume of her ringtone when she was showering and sleeping for fear of missing any little thing from Shen Nian.

But before she could rejoice over the fact that Shen Nian had called her for the first time, she heard that Aunt Shen was at her house and was with her brother. She was instantly frightened out of her wits.

If her brother really got together with Shen Nian’s mother, that would make her Shen Nian’s Aunt!

That would never do!

Cheng Mu’s sleepiness vanished. She grabbed her cell phone and jumped out of bed. She did not even have time to put on her slippers before hurrying out of the room.

She rushed to her brother’s room. She knocked on the door for a long time, but there were no awkward sounds from within. Only then did she heave a sigh of relief. Fortunately, her brother had not brought her to his room. Otherwise, their relationship would be cemented.

She told Shen Nian the news and comforted him softly. “Don’t worry, I’ll go look for your mother now. If I have to, I’ll squeeze on the same bed with her. Nothing will happen between her and my brother. Don’t worry, Nian Nian, I’m sureā€¦”

In his room, Shen Nian could not be bothered to listen to her babbling. After hanging up the phone angrily, he quietly hugged his cell phone and waited for Shen Yin to tell him that she was safe.

On the other end of the line, Cheng Mu stared at the blank screen in disappointment. She complained inwardly that Shen Nian did not care about her feelings at all. Meanwhile, she asked a servant which room had been assigned to Shen Yin.

Someone suddenly knocked on the bedroom door. Cheng Huo put down the newspaper and asked coldly, “Who is it? Didn’t I tell you not to come over unless necessary?”

Cheng Mu’s heart skipped a beat. She gulped in fear and put on a pitiful, weak voice. “Brother, I had a nightmare just now. I’m so scared. Can you let me in?”

Cheng Huo frowned, but when he heard the water continue to run in the bathroom, he opened the door and let his sister in.

As soon as Cheng Mu entered, her round eyes darted to the bathroom door. “Brother, why is there someone else here?”

Cheng Huo turned around coldly and sat on the sofa. He poured her a cup of hot tea to sooth her nerves. “Your Sister Shen came to our house to play.”

“Ah!” Cheng Mu pretended to gape in surprise. She held the hot tea and looked at her brother in surprise. “It’s already so late. Shouldn’t you go back to your room to sleep? Why are you still here?”

Cheng Huo was stumped by her question and coughed awkwardly. “Children should not meddle in the affairs of adults. Didn’t you say that you had a nightmare? You don’t look very frightened. You had better go back to sleep quickly. You still have to wake up early for school tomorrow morning.”

“No! I want to wait for Sister Shen to come out. I want to talk to her!” Cheng Mu batted her eyes innocently.
